Approaches to Environmental Data Quality - A Historical Perspective

Short Narrative/Description:
- The formation of the EPA and passage of major environmental legislation led to the development of sampling and analysis programs to support the associated regulatory missions. Contrasts are drawn between the performance-based data quality requirements for pollution prevention regulations (such as RCRA) and the prescriptive requirements associated with Superfund investigations. The programmatic data quality requirements of the Superfund program are described, along with the challenges posed by the overlapping quality requirements for EPA, state, and other federal agencies, such as DoD. The talk concludes with a forward look at the current issues faceing the field.
Speaker Background:
Ken Rapuano is a senior chemist at HydroGeoLogic, Inc., a Reston-based environmental firm. He has been a CHMM since 2010 and a CQA since 2015. His expertise includes analytical chemistry, data validation and usability assessments, and health and safety. He also supports database management and risk assessment. Outside of work, he is still playing Dungeons and Dragons, and has been know to take an occasional interest in beer brewing, history, sports, computer games, and cats.

Reservations: Cost for dinner is $25.00 per person. There is no charge to attend for the presentation only. To register with or without dinner please use our on line reservation form which can be used up to the Tuesday before the meeting.
