From Deming’s funnel experiment (and Six Sigma practice), for the best improvement, first, center the process, then, work on reducing variability by eliminating special causes and reducing common causes of variability.
In my case, I worked on reducing the high glucose levels to “acceptable” levels, then I started by observing how my body reacted to different foods or situations (i.e. special causes). For example, rice and pasta give me high glucose levels - take smaller amounts or none at all. Sickness or stress will elevate glucose levels as well.
Missing medicine or meals was another special cause.
