• ASQ and the Geographic Communities Council (GCC) are excited to announce the South Atlantic Region Director (RD) for the 2026-2027 term. Natasha Harding-Overton will continue as the RD for the upcoming term. As your Region Director, Natasha will continue to guide and support the geographic communities within the Region, be the bridge between the section leaders, and the GCC and support the region's growth in alignment with the Society's mission and values. She can be contacted with section and region questions.

These phone calls are often warmly received, with members expressing appreciation for the personal connection.
    • This outreach effort encourages engagement with our Section, supports new members by connecting them directly with a current member, and helps address the challenge of limited in-person interaction due to our primarily virtual meetings.
    • Volunteers on the Welcome Committee can also earn Recertification Units (RUs) toward maintaining their certifications.

• America's Newest Auto Plant Is Full of Robots — What could the future of work look like? A Hyundai factory which opened near Savannah, Ga., late last year illustrates one possible timeline. Here about 1,450 people work alongside some 750 robots that do the dangerous, repetitive or physically demanding tasks, WSJ reports. People at the Hyundai plant hold primary responsibility for quality control, both along the assembly line and after a vehicle is finished.
• Teamcenter SLCM and a data-driven development approach will connect design, development, manufacturing preparation, testing and quality management — Siemens Digital Industries Software reports that Teamcenter Semiconductor Lifecycle Management (SLCM) software was adopted by Rapidus Corp. Teamcenter SLCM and its standard semiconductor-specific data models support ability to connect operations and data.

  With over dozen responses received, the trend was clear. Those section members who were active in the aughts or before voted for an inperson social meeting followed by a RU-generating presentation. Those who became active in the section in the subsequent decades voted for an online meeting. They were in the majority and so our December meeting will be a year-end review of the chapter activities and Ranger Outings.

• GCC Seats on the ASQ Board of Directors — Nominations are now open for the Geographic Communities Council (GCC) seats on the ASQ Board of Directors. The nomination period begins August 22nd and ends on September 22nd. Following a decision by the ASQ Board of Directors on July 10, , the number of Board seats for both the Technical Communities Council and the Geographic Communities Council has been adjusted from 6 to 5 each. That means we now have two open seats available for directors representing geographic communities for the 2026–2027 term. This is a great opportunity to bring your passion, voice, and leadership to help shape the future of our geographic communities.
• Geographic Communities Council Region Director — The Geographic Communities Council (GCC) Region Director election cycle has opened! The nomination period begins August 22nd and ends on September 22nd. There are thirteen regions that make up the GCC. In alternate years, half of the Regions elect Region Directors. Per the Election of Region Directors procedure, each section within the applicable regions has the opportunity to nominate one or more candidates. Nominations can be made by the elected officers (chair, secretary, and treasurer) and immediate past Chair of the sections with the applicable region. Self-nominations are permitted.

• A Message from the ASQ Board: Financial Stewardship and Support: In their ongoing commitment to transparency, the ASQ Board announced an important decision made by the ASQ Board of Directors. Following a thorough assessment of their financial positions, which showed all units have access to sufficient funds to complete their budgeted initiatives for Q1 , Quarter 1 dues allocations will not be distributed to member units.
Funding for quarterly dues allocations to member units comes through withdrawals from ASQ investment funds. This decision enables the funds to remain fully invested while the market conditions remain uncertain. This hard decision is driven by two key factors:
• Increased global economic uncertainty; these conditions have impacted investment performance and forecasting.
• Ongoing geopolitical instability, making long-term financial planning more complex.
