Synopsis
Physical Security is vital to all industries and organizations. Security policies and procedures provide the foundation for physical security controls. Communication between the Security department and the individual is a key element in integrating various security controls.

Regardless of your position within an organization, you are a major contributor to the overall security posture for your organization. The age-old adage about Security being an individual responsibility is true. So, how much information should Security generally communicate to employees? How much do employees want? What are the benefits to truly explaining security procedures to employees? Is a good working relationship between employees and Security a vital part of the overall security within an organization?

Tom Collins is a Lead Security Management Specialist at SWIFT, a global cooperative in the high tech, financial industry. Prior to SWIFT, Tom was the Branch Chief for Security Programs and Oversight at the Defense Information Systems Agency. He obtained the Certified Protection Professional designation from ASIS International in 2004 and a Masters Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University in 2007.
