Synopsis
Physical Security is vital to all industries and organizations. Security policies and
procedures provide the foundation for physical security controls. Communication
between the Security department and the individual is a key element in integrating
various security controls.
Regardless of your position within an organization, you are a major contributor to the
overall security posture for your organization. The age-old adage about Security being
an individual responsibility is true. So, how much information should Security
generally communicate to employees? How much do employees want? What are the benefits
to truly explaining security procedures to employees? Is a good working relationship
between employees and Security a vital part of the overall security within an
organization?
Tom Collins is a Lead Security Management Specialist at SWIFT, a global cooperative in
the high tech, financial industry. Prior to SWIFT, Tom was the Branch Chief for
Security Programs and Oversight at the Defense Information Systems Agency. He obtained
the Certified Protection Professional designation from ASIS International in 2004 and
a Masters Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster
University in 2007.
