ASQ Section 0511 August 2022 Meeting Announcement

Community Matters: Connections by Divisions
Presented by Ken Rapuano
ASQ Section 0511 Vice Chair and Compliance Officer
Short Narrative/Description:
ASQ Section 0511 is a community of quality professionals of Northern Virginia. But geography is not the only principle used by ASQ to organize communities. Topic and industry-specific communities are formed based on member interests. They are member-led communities that include divisions, forums, interest groups, and technical communities.
Community Matters is a Section 0511 Initiative that parallels its Quality Matters initiative:
- In the Quality Matters initiative, the Section members define and select areas of their interest and discuss their experience with questions about each such area at a Round Table led by a Moderator.
- This initiative was presented in May 2021 as Quality Matters: Questions on Questions seen here: http://asq0511.org/Meetings/announce2105.html
- Five (5) Quality Matters Round Tables have taken place to date. In fact, Ken was the Moderator of the August 2021 Round Table on ASQ Sections as seen here: http://asq0511.org/Meetings/announce2108.html
- In this new Community Matters initiative, Section 0511 will take a look at the communities that already exist in ASQ such as Divisions, Forums, and other types. A Quality Professional will provide an overview of an ASQ Community, present one’s personal experience of engaging with that Community, and present and discuss an interesting material from that Community.
- This new initiative is presented now in August 2022 as Community Matters: Connections by Divisions.
Community Matters Timeline:
Today’s Speaker, Ken Rapuano, is the Lead of the Community Matters Initiative.
- In the first presentation in this initiative, Mike Coleman presented the Reliability and Risk Division (RRD) in October 2021 and its material on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in November 2021:
- At upcoming Section 0511 meetings, Ken Rapuano will present his own Energy and Environmental Division (EED) and its materials, including his related experience as a Quality Professional in an environmental firm.
- At meetings afterwards, Ken Rapuano will lead other Quality Professionals in presenting their Communities. You can see the list of ASQ Communities here:
Program Content:
In Ken’s August 2022 presentation, you will see the following:
- First, Ken will explain the ASQ communities: Divisions, Forums, and other formations.
- This includes who participates in them and the role that publications, web sites, and emails play in their work.
- This also includes how ASQ certifications align with such communities.
- Then, Ken will show the format of a review of an ASQ Community using Mike Coleman’s pioneering presentations of October and November 2021 on ASQ Divisions: RRD and GD&T.
- This includes a discussion of the community, review of its materials, perhaps also an exchange of contributions with the community being reviewed.
- Finally, Ken will briefly review the roster of the ASQ Communities as noted here:
- This includes what types of Quality Professionals would be interested in it and could present it, and what ASQ certifications pertain to each community.
