Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Dr. Harry Hertz
Speaker Biography:
- Dr. Hertz has responsibility for the National Quality Program which administers the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Prior to becoming Program Director in 1996, he served as the Program’s Deputy Director from 1992-1996. Dr. Hertz has been with the National Institute of Standards and Technology since 1973, originally as a research chemist, and then in a series of management positions including Director of the Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory. He has made presentations to a wide variety of audiences on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, its criteria for measuring performance excellence, and on health care quality improvement. He is the author or co-author of over 50 publications and holds 1 patent. He serves on advisory committees for the Conference Board, the United Way of America, and the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Dr. Hertz is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has received numerous awards including the 1986 Arthur S. Flemming Award as one of ten outstanding civil servants under age 40. He has a B.S. in Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. Following graduate school, Dr. Hertz spent two years as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Munich.
The Baldrige Program is the nation's public-private partnership dedicated to performance excellence. The Baldrige Program
- Raises awareness about the importance of performance excellence in driving the U.S. and global economy
- Provides organizational assessment tools and criteria
- Educates leaders in businesses, schools, health care organizations, and government and nonprofit agencies about the practices of best-in-class organizations
- Recognizes national role models and honors them with the only Presidential Award for performance excellence

Cost for dinner is $25.00 per person if reservations are made by deadline, $30 if otherwise. To either register for a programs only option or prepay for your dinner using a credit card you can either use our on line form or submit a preauthorization charge form to the treasurer. There is no charge to attend for the presentation only. If your plans change, please contact arrangements10@asq0511.org, and let us know.
